Our success relies on having the right people in the right roles with the training, support and development they need. Investing in the development of our colleagues demonstrates how we are living up to our vision and our values.
Investors in People
We are fully accredited by Investors in People, demonstrating our commitment to providing an environment where we actively attract, retain, and promote the best people. We were assessed in accordance with nine categories within the framework of “Leading”, “Supporting” and “Improving” our people, based on research into what makes a company succeed in the long term, and trends in how successful companies lead and support their people.
Investing in our people from the start of their career is important to us, which is why we have an active apprenticeship programme across the business including Trade Apprentice and Management Trainee opportunities. Our apprentices get an average of two years on-the-job training and an NVQ (or equivalent). In many cases, they stay on with us for further training or move into permanent roles. Gleeson is also proud to work collaboratively with the NHBC on an ongoing basis across its business operations, with many of its apprentices utilising the NHBC training facilities.
Paula Clark, Health and Safety Manager for the North East region, was previously nominated for an award at the National Builder Federation Top 100 Most Influential Women in Construction Awards. These awards aim to celebrate and showcase women working in the sector to make female and non-binary role models more visible. The awards also shine a light on those that are working to support equality, diversity, inclusion and equity across the industry through their actions and support of others. Paula joined the business in 2020 and since then, has been influential in improving awareness and reducing the risk of accidents and near misses across her region.
Gleeson is an equal opportunities employer and will never discriminate on the grounds of sex, race, religion or belief, age, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy/maternity, sexual orientation, gender reassignment or disability. We believe that everyone should be paid fairly, regardless of their gender and we pay equally for doing the same job and encourage women to apply for roles at all levels.
We continue to seek ways of recruiting more females into the construction industry by working in partnership with Women into Construction and Women in Property. Over the past 12 months we have recruited more apprentices and graduates that are female, promoting and investing in women in construction.
We have improved the gender diversity of our Board, with three female Non-Executive Directors along with a female Company Secretary. Over the past 12 months many of our internal promotions have seen females taking more senior roles and we continue to look at roles that females occupy and review how our succession planning programme fits in with these roles including commencement of talent mapping.
